Border Biomedical Research Center
Description: The mission of the Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC) is to facilitate and expand the pathobiology research at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) by strengthening the research infrastructure of the institution. The BBRC, through collaborative efforts with nearby institutions, has become the focal point of pathobiology research that addresses the biomedical and health issues of the bicultural population of the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez region of the Texas-Mexico border.
Center for Civic Engagement
Description: The mission of the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) at the University of Texas at El Paso is to engage faculty and students in the community through community-based teaching and learning in order to enhance student learning, promote civic engagement and actively improve the El Paso-Cd. Juarez Region. The Center works with faculty and students in all colleges and collaborates with a wide variety of public agencies, schools, non-profit and community-based organizations. The Center aims to foster collaborative leadership, civility and deepen democracy in the region through what may be alternatively known as hands-on/action-oriented learning, civic education, Service Learning, and or active citizenship.
Center For Defense Systems Research
Description:  The Center for Defense Systems Research at the University of Texas at El Paso applies a broad range of cutting-edge university-based research and technology to the near-term, applied, user-level, multi-use technical solutions for the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security.  The Center acts as a one-stop shop for DoD, DHS  and University collaborations at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Center for Environmental Resource Management
Description: The Center for Environmental Resource Management (CERM) provides university-wide leadership and coordination for energy and environmentally-related academic, policy, research, and service activities. CERM focuses university resources to address energy, hazardous waste, air quality, water availability and quality, ecosystem, and policy issues through an active program of research, outreach, policy and academic programs, including support for a culturally diverse student population to develop the skills necessary to become environmental engineers and scientists. CERM is committed to developing both the human and technical resources needed to build the capacity of the region to solve its environmental problems.
Center for Inter-American and Border Studies (CIBS)
Description: Mission:The Center for Inter-American and Border Studies contributes to the fulfillment of UTEP's mission by conducting and promoting research, academic programs, and public programming on themes related to Inter-American and Border Studies. These themes include culture and language, the arts, economics, trade, society, history, ecosystems and environment, health, and education in the Americas and the border region. The Center is especially dedicated to the accomplishment of these goals through partnerships within and across national  In all three components, CIBS is especially dedicated to establishing innovative visions of the Border and Inter-American region that integrate traditionally separate fields of knowledge and people that work in them, as well as integrating theory and practice to realize UTEP's intellectual and social mission. CIBS is dedicated to activities that unite the campus and community partners in the production and dissemination of knowledge. CIBS' objective is to be a Center of excellence in matters related to the U.S.-Mexico Border, Border issues in general, Mexico, and Inter-American phenomena.  It will achieve that through its research, academic programs, and outreach.  In addition to its own programs, it assists other university units to become similarly recognized for the application of disciplinary perspectives to Border and Inter-American topics.  The Center's interdisciplinary academic programs will educate a new generation of professionals and scholars dedicated to application and generation of new knowledge about the Border and Latin America.  Its research will contribute to wider understanding of the U.S.-Mexico Border and other Inter-American topics.  Its outreach activities will provide opportunities for the wider community, both regional and international, to appreciate the nature of the Border and other situations in which people of different nations interact.
Center for Research on Educational Reform
Description: Founded at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2002, the university-wide Center for Research on Educational Reform (CRER)  builds on over a decade of significant experience in educational reform at the K-16 levels.  The Center for Research on Educational Reform has been awarded approximately $14 million dollars in funding. Our Mission:To conduct broad-based and multidisciplinary research on educational reform in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education
To address important questions about the impact of educational reform efforts based on studies in El Paso and elsewhere
To disseminate our findings both locally and nationally to aid in national education reform and in the improvement of education in the El Paso community and beyond
To strengthen capacity for faculty and graduate students to conduct research in a variety of educationally-related areas
Center for Transportation Infrastructure Systems
Description: The focus of CTIS, which supplants the Center for Highway Materials Research, is to coordinate basic and applied research related to the nation's transportation infrastructure at UTEP. One of the missions of this new Center is to directly support the new PhD in Civil Engineering with focus in Infrastructure Systems.
Centers for Entrepreneurial Development, Advancement, Research and Support
Description: 

The Centers for Entrepreneurial Development, Advancement, Research, and Support (CEDARS) is an organization of centers, institutes, and Professional Organizations that foster business development in the region served by the University of Texas at El Paso. This mission is accomplished through activities that support business creation, development, and growth. CEDARS' programs educate students, business owners, and prospective business owners about the formation and management of companies in free enterprise systems. UTEP faculty, staff, and students conduct research to add to knowledge about business development and entrepreneurship; and communicate these findings and results to practitioners, policy makers and other scholars. CEDARS staff and volunteers provide service to the region through continuing education, counseling, publications and other efforts.

As a organizational unit of the College of Business Administration, CEDARS fulfills its mission in collaboration with other business and economic development programs and the business community at large. Through its various centers and institutes, CEDARS seeks to bring global attention to UTEP and El Paso.

Institute for Policy and Economic Development
Description: The Institute for Policy and Economic Development provides leadership and coordination at the University of Texas at El Paso in order to provide objective analysis and interpretation of public and private policy research, to address issues of importance to the people of the Paso del Norte and Camino Real and to insure economic development proceeds in a rational and sustainable fashion.
Materials Research and Technology Institute
Description: The Materials Research and Technology Institute (MRTI) was formed in 2001 to assist research conducted by scientists and students in the Materials Science and Engineering (MAS&E) program at UTEP. The focus of research projects in MRTI is to create an economically and environmentally healthy US/Mexico border region, to develop regional employment opportunities and to help provide technologically oriented personal for the region.
National Center For Border Security and Immigration
Description: 

The NCBSI is developing education curricula at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and partner universities that will expose students to the day to day complexities of homeland security and homeland defense and to derive solutions.  It will expose students to homeland security professsionals and organizations to shape career choices in support of homeland security.  It has a component which focuses on students K-12 in HS STEM through programs supported by the school districts. The Center will develop integrated education and research initiatives, complimentary in scope, to reverse the declining interest in science and technology. Through research we assist the DHS in meeting its border security and immigration  related science and technology needs, collaborate with homeland security related industry, and provide full support to those agencies and individuals charged with defense of the homeland and developing National Immigration and Border Security Policy.

Regional Geospatial Center
Description: University of Texas at El Paso had established the Regional Geospatial Center in 2005 funded by congress as a prototype with Stephen F. Austin State university (SFASU) / Columbia Center. The center is physically located on campus in the Research and Business Development complex in Kelly Hall suite 115. The centers will provide accurate geospatial data to local emergency responders including the Texas National Guard and other member of the El Paso region's emergency response community. The Center will also be involved in the development of geospatial applications to support UTEP research and service activities in a variety of areas including border security, economic development and public health. The Regional Geospatial Center will be connected to its partner in East Texas at SFASU and the Texas Natural Resource Information System to demonstrate and provide backups in the event of catastrophic system failure. GIS is crucial in emergency planning and decision making. Therefore the Center will initially collect data that are most important for such decisions.The Center will help direct some of the research that relates to GIS and add the data components or attributes that will serve the main goals. UTEP is an active member of Paso Del Norte mapping for public access organization which includes all GIS professional in El Paso, Donna Anna and Jueraz. Data and maps are published on the website and updated periodically by participating members representing many organization.
Research Institute for Manufacturing and Engineering Systems
Description: 

The mission of RIMES is to research, promote, and expand the use and deployment of current and future, emerging systems engineering methodologies, processes, and tools (MPT) in the design, development, manufacturing, implementation and life cycle management of end-to-end enterprise systems. As part of UTEP, the Institute is committed to education. Members of the staff teach classes, sponsor research at the University, and are encouraged to participate in seminars, conferences and lectures. The Institute's academic programs employ an interdisciplinary approach based on an "entire view" of missions and operational environments. It combines the capabilities of platforms, systems, operators, processes and support environments to fashion solutions that meet customer needs. The institute has a long history of collaboration with private industry. We are committed to continue and expand this synergy.

Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies
Description: 

Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies, established in 2002, is named after the much honored ABC news veteran - a distinguished alumnus of the University of Texas at El Paso. The Donaldson Center provides academic enrichment for communication majors, communication programs to high school students, and continuing education and training for media and communication professionals. In conjunction with the Department of Communication, the Donaldson Center fosters research collaboration with other universities across the nation and around the world.
